TryOut Toys is very excited to be able to offer an extensive selection in acrylic sphere color and size. We use acrylics in our play and performance because we like how they feel. They are heavy enough to "stick" to you, they are really beautiful to look at and some of them glow under blacklight (UV). They are durable, but they do scratch and scuff when dropped on cement or gravel surfaces. In 10 years of playing with them we've never had one break, but they don't like sharp corners very much.
WARNING: Please be aware that the clear acrylics act just like a magnifying glass and that means they can start fires if left in direct sunlight. We strongly recommend keeping all acrylic spheres in a cloth bag or pouch to keep them nice and shiny and out of the sun. If this is a concern for you then go with a colored acrylic!
What size sphere should you get? After playing with and teaching over 500,000 people of all ages, skill levels and sizes here are a few of our observations:
- We've included some recommendations for each size, but please remember that each person is unique in their approach to playing and in their body structure. It's one of the things that makes this art so fascinating.
- Very often someone will start with a smaller sphere, but as they get more comfortable playing, they move to a larger one.
- The larger the sphere, the easier it is to do arm and body rolls.
- The smaller the sphere, the easier it is to play with multiples in one hand.
